The New London Post Office has great murals of whaleship activity, with barefooted sailors and discreet gore. Also, nice folks at the windows, and depressions in the floor where many thousands of people have stood waiting for stamps and overseas postage. I love this quiet reminder of the history of this building. Could use some roof repairs, though.
Their Passport hours are incorrect on the USPS website. They say 8-5 but they are actually 8-4. The staff is very unfriendly about helping you with a passport as they consider it very time consuming and act as though you are wasting their time especially with questions. They do not how to handle out of state situations or using the online application, for example if you print with the page 2 sided instead of photo copying it to make it one sided, they make you manually fill out a new paper form (with the reason being that they have never seen that before, but the paper form is on two pages). The woman I worked with was particularly perturbed that I asked them to uphold the hours they have online because their line was short and we could complete before the Post Office closed. It’s sad that with all the cuts in service, that they are not better at providing the services that remain.

Come see the awesome whaling themed WPA murals! (they finally have info displayed about them). Better lighting would help. I've been coming here since there was a blind man selling newspapers and candy in the lobby. 2 of 3 clerks seem to pride themselves on who can move slower. All in all, a valuable and reliable government service which we all should use and treasure. Save the USPS from the demagogue-prone proto-oligarchs (GOP)!
